When I came across this recipe to make oatmeal in a slow cooker. I was excited! The idea of having my slow cooker slave away while we all slept was very enticing. The best part would be waking and having breakfast ready!
1 1/2 cups steel cut oats
1 cup raisins (or any dried fruit)
3 cups water
1/2 cup half-and-half
Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours.
Is it a keeper?
When I woke up in the morning, I was like a kid at Christmas. I ran right out to the kitchen to check my slow cooker. And you know what I had? I big bowl of mush! It was awful. The concept was great, but the end result was disgusting.
I’m wondering if I did something wrong. Maybe my slow cooker (which is actually my mother-in-law’s, because I have not yet decided how to replace mine) runs too hot? I don’t know. If you have any suggestions or a recipe that works, please share! I would love to be able to make oatmeal while I sleep!
